These discussions were about the cowries as used by ancient Americans, and by other peoples around the world. This subject is extremely obscure. I've found this information in some pretty old and out of the way books.
This was my first post on the subject. Nobody has heard much about any of this until I brought this subject up for discussion.
Five days later, I've sent this further reply to Tom. He found some problems with Jackson's research, but could not undermine Jackson's larger thesis.
This is the conclusion of this discussion with Tom. After this post, he bowed out of this conversation. Oh, well, I suppose his contribution was a little too negative to start with -- but without harsh critics, how do we know our thesis holds up?
The exchanges on this subject were quite lively for a while in sci.arch. There're many more posts about this available from DejaNews. So please check out this useful Usenet archive if you wish to see the posts of my opponents in their entirety.
