Made by Ferraro, the first
Kinders (pronounced Kin-Der) were sold in 1972. Since then, they
are available in every country in the world except the USA and Africa.
Kinder eggs are hollow milk chocolate eggs about the size of a large hen's
egg in an orange, white and blue foil wrapper. The toy within the egg is
contained in an oval-shaped plastic capsule. The toys could be anything
from puzzles to figures, plastic to handpainted figures. Some of the toys
have moveable parts and some need assembly but some don't. They are all
miniature toys, except for Maxi Eggs with contain considerably larger toys.
Today, Kinders are one of the largest collectible toys sold in the world!
Over 2 million eggs/toys are produced each day, with the entire collection
consisting of over 3000 toys since their inception! Each year there are
more than 100 new toys introduced, thus retiring the previous years toys.
In some countries special toys are released for different occasions like
Christmas & Easter or a special series may only be availbale in a certain
country. Because of the low cost of Kinders, they make for a very affordable
hobby for all. Kinders are popular at any time throughout the year,
but are most popular at Christmas and Easter... They are great for children,
adults, toy collectors or chocoholics! Other uses for Kinders are: Stocking
stuffers, scavanger hunts, easter egg hunts, treats and the most innovative
use for Kinders is as wedding mementos! Give everyone that attended the
wedding a Kinder egg -- it's sure a lot better than those little "candy
bags" that no one ever uses/eats!!
