Social Wellness General Information
As social beings we interact every day with others. Some areas in which our lifestyle reflects our Social Wellness are:
  • positive interaction with others
  • enjoy being with others
  • develop and build friendships
  • practice empathy
  • care for others
  • allow others to care for us

To enable us to improve our social wellness it is important to:

  • know one's needs
  • pursue one's needs
  • connect with other people who nurture these needs
  • make an effort to talk to people who are supportive
  • join a club/volunteer when possible

Social Wellness for On-Line Distance Education Students

Many on-line courses can be taken anywhere and at any time. The student is in total control of when and where he/she studies. This freedom may, however, also create a problem. To be successful the On-Line students need to be able to strike a balance between family, work and studies. Since the students have no classes to attend it is easier to put studies off until "tomorrow". Therefore it is important for On-Line students to budget their time

On-Line students have minimal or no face-to-face contacts with their instructors or their fellow students but with the development of new technologies On-Line students are now able to talk to their fellow-students through voice chats without the added costs of long distance phone bills. Check with your educational institution or set up your own chat room

For those students who are unable to use voice chat because of time difference, set up a bulletin board and invite fellow students to join in.
