Karen Shields' Homepage

I am trying my hand at getting this page created with links to others with similar interests. Please be patient while I learn a new hobby, Web page designing.

Teddy Bear Collecting

Over the last twenty-five years I have been collecting teddy bears of any kind, as long as they are teddy bears (as opposed to stuffed animals of other types). I have a small teddy bear collection of which a few are shown below; these live in our guestroom.

The Karen Shields Teddy Bear Den

My collection of bears from all over the world is roughly, at last count around, 600. My Pride and Joy is a blonde black bear-skin rug from my late twin Kevin Misfeldt. Other bears of note are an autographed angel bear by Canadian bear designer Sue Ducat and two bears by American bear designer Robert Raikes.

I have bearaphinalia all throughout my house. My wedding cake had red gummy bears on it and a Bride and Goom Teddy Bear picnic on the top. The train of my wedding gown sported a teddy bear, hidden in the design. Now you know why my nickname is "Teddy Bear"!

Acting and Clowning

I have been on television and stage (musical, pantomime, comedy and drama).

Handweaving

I own an antique loom, hand-made by a Swedish gentleman out in Hanley, Saskatchewan around the turn of the century. If anyone can help me out to find out more. I also have a portable table top loom (Created by my father, Jim Misfeldt). The loom is great for travelling and going camping with.

Quilting

I have done a few quilting crafts and a coverlet in the log cabin style, shown in the picture below.

Designing

I am a trained clothing designer. I have designed vest patterns, fabrics-- an example can be seen in the above picture. I have designed purses with handwoven exteriors, and with interiors containing many pockets. I have also assisted many brides for their wedding day with designing the wedding gown and specialty gowns like the oriental Christmas gown in the above picture.

Knitting

My grandmother taught me how to knit. I have designed my own style of sweaters. The grey and multicoloured sweaters are samples of my work.

Klara the Klown

Here is the "Herstory" of Klara the Klown.

From that very meaningful beginning, Klara has performed in many places across Canada and even in the USA. Always willing to share the message of God’s love, Klara is always ready. Are you open to receive God’s message, however, it is sent to you? Never say never, for God will see that, as a challenge to get the message to you. Be prepared. While you're waiting, you can click here to download an essay on Klara, Klowns and Kids.
