GOLDEN RETRIEVERS
As a sporting breed, Golden Retrievers need to be confident, energetic, intelligent, good natured and willing to please. This combination of traits allows them to be exceptional companions in the right home. They are athletic dogs and need appropriate exercise and mental stimulation. A walk around the block is not sufficient.
Our first Golden came to us in 1990. Ginger was everything a Golden should be. She never won any titles, which is entirely our fault, but through her we became involved in dog sports. She taught us so much that we take with us as we move forward in our breeding program.
At Gowans, we combine several styles of Goldens in search of our ideal dog. Both English and North American conformation lines form the basis of our pedigrees. We also occasionally use obedience and field dogs to provide virtues that we feel can be improved upon in our current dogs.
Our primary focus is on temperament and health. We also place value on an intelligent dog. With these building blocks, we strive to produce our ideal companion Retriever.
