Primus Canada to create another 113 jobs
in Edmundston, NB.



Edmundston (CNB) –March 30, 2009 – Primus Telecommunications Canada is expanding its Edmundston customer contact centre, creating 113 new jobs, adding to its over 200 employees currently in place, Minister of Business New Brunswick Greg Byrne announced today.

"Our government is proud to support this thriving member of our customer contact centre industry,” said Byrne.  “The strength of New Brunswick’s knowledge industry is demonstrated when firms like Primus Canada continue to expand their strong base in our province. Our goal of a self-sufficient New Brunswick is closer to success when we partner with the private sector to create lasting employment for the people of New Brunswick."

Byrne was joined at the news conference by Andrew Day, Senior Vice President of Residential Services and Denis Leger, Director of Residential Care of Primus Telecommunications Canada, Jacques P. Martin, Mayor of Edmundston, and Rino Pelletier, Executive Director, Enterprise Madawaska (MC).

“Based on the continued success of our Edmundston Call Centre operation, Primus Canada is thrilled to create more employment opportunities for residents of New Brunswick, and at the same time provide more Canadian-based Customer Service for our valued customers across Canada,” said Andrew Day of Primus Canada.

The provincial government will provide Primus Telecommunications Canada with a forgivable loan of $7,500 for each of the 113 jobs created at its Edmundston centre, which currently employs more than 200 people. 

"The clear commitment that Primus has shown to Edmundston and to the province of New Brunswick underscores our government's message that in New Brunswick companies can be more successful," added Byrne.  “I am pleased that Primus has chosen New Brunswick for its expansion for the second time in as many years.”

Primus established its Edmundston location in 1996 and expanded its operations in 2007 to employ more than 200 people.
This announcement is part of government's commitment to making economic development a priority for New Brunswick. Recent job creation announcements include 200 jobs at TD Home and Auto Insurance in Saint John; 230 jobs at Cooke Aquaculture in St. George; 10 jobs at Maritime Cold Storage in Portage; 10 jobs at AL-PACK in Moncton; and 30 jobs at Mariner in Saint John.
